WEST PITTSTON ? There are no suspects yet and no leads, but today a State Police Fire Marshal ruled Sunday?s fire in West Pittston was arson.
This home was more than 100 years old, and the homeowner says it was damaged in last year?s flood. The homeowner collected antiques, many of which were destroyed in the fire. The family also told us today, two of their cats died.
This was a fire that officials say started around the porch and quickly spread to the house next door. That neighbor was surprised to hear today that the fire had been set.
?It happened at right past the dinner hour, so to think that as you?re in your home, prepping for dinner that someone?s out here lighting a fire. It?s very unsettling,? said neighbor Sheri Slusser.
Fire officials were also working hard in Mocanaqua today, where they ruled yesterday?s fire on Railroad Street arson.
By our count, this brings us to a total of six unsolved arsons in Luzerne County alone in the past few weeks: three in Mocanaqua, two in Shickshinny, and the one in West Pittston.
Again, there are no suspects in any of these cases yet, but also no injuries. Officials are still investigating.
